The Application of RFID Smart Card

The Application of RFID Smart Card

The Application of RFID Smart Card
RFID smart card is a card with built-in RF chip and antenna, which obtains energy through the electromagnetic field emitted by the card reader and exchanges data with the card reader. According to the working frequency, it can be roughly divided into low frequency (LF, about 125 kHz), high frequency (HF, about 13.56 MHz, including NFC), and ultra-high frequency (UHF, 860-960 MHz). Different frequencies determine the recognition distance, penetration ability, and anti-interference performance, as well as their respective suitable scenarios.

Main application areas
Access control and attendance
The most common high-frequency card application. Employee cards, student cards, and community access cards can be verified by placing them close to the card reader and cooperating with the backend system to record entry and exit times. The advantages are no need for contact, minimal wear and tear, and fast card swiping.

public transport
Bus cards and subway cards are typical contactless smart cards. The card can store balance and supports quick deduction. Some cities have already connected with mobile NFC or bank card flash payment. This type of application requires high transaction speed and offline availability.

Payment and Finance
The "flash payment" function of bank cards and some electronic wallets are based on 13.56 MHz contactless technology. Compared to magnetic stripe cards, it has stronger encryption capabilities, but security relies on the two-way authentication mechanism between the card and the terminal.

Identity recognition and identification documents
Some countries and regions have RFID chips embedded in their ID cards, passports, and social security cards for quick identity verification and anti-counterfeiting. This type of application has the highest requirements for encryption and privacy protection.

Logistics and Warehousing
UHF tags are used for batch inventory of goods, pallets, and containers, and can read multiple tags at once from several meters away, greatly improving the efficiency of inbound and outbound storage. Here, more labels are used instead of cards.

Retail and anti-counterfeiting
Product anti-counterfeiting labels, clothing tags, and library management. RFID can achieve item level tracking, combined with self-service checkout and automatic inventory counting.

Medical and Asset Management
Patient wristbands, medical device tracking, sample management. Can reduce manual input errors and improve traceability.

Animals and Pets
Implantable low-frequency chips are used for pet identity registration and livestock management, with short reading distance but good penetration.
